Ahh Wyandottes!! A good old fashioned American breed. Wyandottes come in several varieties with the most common being Gold and Silver Laced. The Blue Laced in both dark, on the right, and light, on the left above, is one of the newest varieties developed. All wyandottes have a gentle disposition and are easy to handle. Wyandottes have rose combs and yellow beaks and legs. They lay a light brown to cream colored egg. We got our start of the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes from Ron Presley of Cottage Hill Farm in Athens, TN and Bill Braden at Land of Tobe Poultry in Oklahoma. When breeding the two shades of blue together, you will obtain a mixture of dark and light birds. When breeding them dark to dark and light to light, you will maintain a consistancy in coloring with an occasional of the other variety popping up in the mix. Below is a light chick on the left and a dark chick on the right.

We have just obtained a show quality Silver Laced Wyandotte, seen below, from Gary Overton in Ohio. We have not yet established a breeding stock of this variety. The Silver Laced Wyandotte in it's original color and form as seen below, is becoming a thing of the past. Breeding for production has left the Silver Laced Wyandottes, which appear to be common everywhere, with a small frame and a mostly black undercarriage. This happens mostly in the male bird. Our goal is to get this breed re-established in it's original characteristic. We are pleased to announce that we now have some Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks seen in the photo at the bottom right! We still have a long way to go before we can offer these birds to our customers.
